Hey readers, welcome back to another progress update of our project!

This week we were fortunate enough to attend the Singapore International Robot Expo 2016 :)

Singapore International Robo Expo (SIRE) is a regional marketplace to discover business opportunity, projects and funding availability for robotics and automation solutions.

This expo was an eye opener, we saw many different types of project from autonomous robots, drone and even industrial automation. We walked around the booth and talk to people from the industry, They gave us insights on what they do, what kind of people the want to hire and explain to us their showcase.

There were some projects similar to ours where their robot will move around autonomously in an environment. Despite being similar, the purpose of each was different. For example there was a robot named hospi which deliver documents in the hospital. They explain how their robot works and gave up pointer on how to improve ours, such as having a inteactive face.

Improvements and Changes: Week 3

Last week, we started fabricating a new robot, this week we will be finishing the fabrication and start assembling the robot

Improvement and Changes:

  • Fabrication of structure

  • Assembly of structure

The Structure of the robot uses aluminium extrusions. The frames were designed using Autodesk Inventor 2016 and fabricated using the bench saw and assembled with inner brackets. The robot structure would be screwed on to the base plate and be the body of the robot. To reduce the weight of the robot and center of gravity of the robot, the structure is mainly hollow.
